To Catch A Falling Star

This is why I've been dead for a little bit, just working on this guy. I am actually trying with this picture. This was half inspired by Laputa Castle In The Sky (awesome movie, go watch it), half inspired by the song The Cage by Sonata Arctica and half inspired by my love for space. That's right, this is 150% of pure inspiration HELLZ YES!!!

It started as just practice for an upcoming picture I am going to do for I was trying out a kemono style, as well as upgrading the design to my sona. I started sketching in my sketchbook, and me being me, I started to finish it up (like I do for all of my "sketches"). I used sharpie for the outline and the black parts and pencil crayon for the blue, and it was really good. I wanted to add a background to it in photoshop while still keeping my original picture, but of course I have such a shitty scanner, it didn't scan properly.

So with me raging like a 12 year old after they played MW2 for 17 hours straight and didn't win a single match and with 170 some odd layers and 11+ gradient fill layers later, I produced this.

There was a lot of new things for me. I've been looking at tutorials for colouring and shading, but none of them worked for me, so I created my own way of doing that. That's where the 11 and then some gradient layers come in. I was surprised at how well it came out. Granted there are a few mistakes, but hey, not bad for a first try at something new.

I always outlined where one colour ended and another began with black, so this time I tried to outline it with the blue I was using. It worked really well, until I started doing the shading. I don't know what happened, I guess photoshop wanted to spewgasm (that's right, spewgasm) all over my monitor. So now you can see the blue outlines

I created the star with the help of the ultimate space tutorial with the part about creating planets. I just did it my own way. They are more of a guideline (internet high five to whoever gets that reference).

The planet was actually created during my spare at school. My schedule goes media arts, spare, comm tech, lunch, writer's craft. It's a bad schedule because I can't walk home for spare, so I'm left to stay in the library. At least I have a couple of friends with the same spare. With a little help from one of them in choosing the right texture to make the planet, I was able to create the planet.

I tried to follow a tutorial of how to make clouds, without brushes, but you had to be so precise, and I can't do that with a touchpad. So I went off and did the clouds my way.

Overall, I'm really happy with this and I hope you guys really enjoy it too.
